What do these numbers on my carbs mean?

I have a Solex 32-34 PDSIT-2 and a Solex 32-34 PDSIT-3. What does the 32-34 stand for? I assume it means 32 to 34mm capability. Does this mean that the carbs can be converted from 32mm to 34mm by changing venturi's?
Also, why does the PDSIT-3 carb look completely different from the PDSIT-2? I thought they would just be a right and a left but it has alot of extra hose connections and some sort of pipe with an electrical fitting on the end. I know this fitting is not the choke or the shutoff valve. What else could it be?
