My paint code is? Help me out!
 

i checked the tag on the inside of the drivers door, and to the best of my ability, the paint code is "15". i have done the proverbial search here and come up with many paint code options, but no "15". Any ideas? Oh, it's a 914-6, 1970 if that helps.

The Sixes had, in some cases, different paint codes than the Fours. It looks like they were three- or four-digit numbers, though, not just two-digit ones. Look carefully, as the paint codes weren't necessarily stamped that perfectly...

If, for instance, your car shows yellow in the hard-to-paint areas (not the dashboard frame though!!), there's a decent chance the color code was "115", which is Canary Yellow.

Oh, I just noticed the note at the bottom: The "xx10" codes were often missing the "10". Color 1510 is Irish Green; so look for dark green paint in the hard-to-reach areas of the car. :)

FYI...............

The paint number shown on the left door hinge post of my early 1970 (2/70) 914-6 shows the number 23 (only a 2 digit number). The color of my car is tangerine.

So I would have to say if your 914-6 is paint number 15, then the original color of your car is Irish Green.

Thanks guys. I scoped the engine bay out pretty good, and did find a tiny spot of green in the hard to get to way back. I bet you guys are right. Thanks.

Steve and I would LOVE to see your 914-6 and encourage you in your project. As you're choosing paint, I'm going to guess that you are restoring/resurecting it!

You are right. i would like to be there where it is warm and sunny so i can drive it, but, we are loading up the motor-home and sleds and going snowmobiling this weekend, so it's a fair trade!

Chuck's list is helpful, but often misleading. The Early 914/6 numbers I have no evidence of them being used. I have seen car 0033, and 0012 appears to have the xx10 number also. Further, I have never seen the 10 in the xx10 code used. That 10 was to indicate the roof was black. Finally, the late 914/6 code was the same as the 914/4 code. Chuck's list also has errors and omissions, so it is better to use the 914club.com list.
