does anyone know how much horsepower a stock 73 914 2 liter has at 6300 rpm, also, how much torque it has? im trying to compare my car to a rice-rocket!

Maybe 60hp and 60lbs of torque... that's past it's usable range of power. 4500 rpms is where a 2.0l has it's max hp and torque.

The max torque is 3500 RPM, about 105 lb-ft. More than 95% of this is available from 2500 to 4500 RPM. Max HP is 95 at 4900 RPM. For the European version, the peak numbers are 108 lb-ft at 3500 RPM, and 100 HP at 4900 or 5000 RPM. (One of my references says 4500 RPM, but the graph in the 74 European owners manual says otherwise.) HP numbers are DIN spec. DIN HP numbers tend to be lower than SAE Gross (old US standard up to the early 70s) and SAE Net (current US standard). The Type IV motor tends to be fairly torquey, and does not produce a huge amount of power. But that torque band--Mmmmmm. Reminiscent of Nebraska, broad and flat.--DD |

I just looked at my dyno sheet from last year to give the numbers. My max torque is 108 ftlbs at 3600 to 4300 rpms. Max hp is 92 from 4500 to 5200 rpms. Hp and torque jump off a steep cliff after 5300 rpms....And yes, the torque is over 100 ftlbs starting at 2000 rpms running up to 4600 rpms.

Bleyseng...do you have a Euro spec. engine or US version? 2.0? Just curious what your specs are...exhaust etc... I have a Euro piston, 2.0L engine, FI with Bursch. Would I get similar results? Brian

I have 96mm P&C's,CW crank, 8.2 to 1 compression, 42x38 valves, mildly ported 2.0l heads, stock Djet FI (73 set up), 2.0l SSI heat exchangers, 2.0l stock banana muffler.

Probably "take" a few. The 96es bump the displacement from 1971cc to 2055cc, which is a halfway-decent increase.
I'd expect the numbers for Brian's motor to be closer to the stock Euro-spec numbers--at the flywheel. Figure "about" a 15% loss through the drivetrain, and you get 124 lb-ft, and 106 HP. On a chassis dyno, I would expect a stock "Euro" 2.0 to show about 92 lb-ft of torque (peak), and about 85 HP (peak). I'd expect Brian's motor to be right around there--within a handful of HP and lb-ft, or so. --DD |

Thanks, Sure feels like more! Guess drivin beetles for as long as I have...you know the deal! I'll probably get used to this and be wishin for a SIX. We're never satisfied!
