Motor Swap Questions

I know this will start a storm of criticism, but here I go! I want to put a 400+HP Small Block Chevy in a 914. I think it would be the mother of all sleepers and would run with any car on the road today under$500K. Anyone done this swap or have advice. I have looked at Renegade Hybrids and Rod Simpson, both look like they know what to do to do this swap. Please do not beat me up too badly on this!

Its been done plenty but it costs ALOT of $$$ to do right.

Your not going to have much trouble getting 400HP from a tuned small block but besides building up the chasis to handle the power the biggest problem with these cars is the cost of a gearbox to handle that power, forget the stock 901 tranny even the 915 for that matter..... ALOT of $$$ will be spent on the gearbox for the beast, oh and dont forget a LSD, that alone is $1200-1500 +instalation.

Good luck

There are lots out there. At least one with a twin turbo apparently.

don't you think 400hp would be overkill??

read up on the struggles of dealing with that kind of power in such a lightweight vehicle... watch the videos on the WRX engine swap... figure that you can easily do 300hp on the WRX 2.0liter block and the stock tranny with minor rebuild can handle this... and people push the subbie motor to about 370hp before things start breaking... the weight will be WAY less...

so if you aren't happy with 300hp, you could tweak it a bit...

You can never have enough money, looks or HP. The convential wisdom states that the the 914 tranny will handle 300hp, but cannot take tire spinning starts and allot of abuse. The 915 is stated to be good for 415hp and the G50 will take 600+. I could put a stock SMC in the car and get 300hp easy.
