well if you look back i posted the same question a while ago and i now know the answer is NO i even tried to build one to fit but the problem is our shifters on the 914 are placed off center to the drivers side and first and reverse are past the center hump so the consol is way to tall and would interfer with the shifter

now i wound up building a custom center consol that looks simiar to the factory one but it fits back to the stock tray ( or optional thrid seat in mine )

Hey Scott (or anyone), what exactly is that “third seat”? I’ve seen it mentioned many times before, but wouldn’t exactly call a center pad with no seat belt a third seat (if that’s what folks are referring too).

Sincerely,
Curious in Wisconsin.

Tim -

It was indeed a center "pad" with no seat belt. There was a pad by itself that didn't have a storage tray under it, and there's also the center tray with the padded lid. They look the same when closed.

That third seat does have a seat belt. You just can't seem to get three people across in the car. But that third seat belt is there. I pulled mine out long ago cause it just didn't make any sense. But I still have the seat/pad.

My car is a '75 1.8...When I bought it 5 years ago, it had a third/middle seat belt installed and it looked OEM. I can't imagine that someone would have even thought about adding one of these on their own.

Weeelll Odie,

I doubt you have my previous 914, but I actually put a third seat belt in my 76. I had two young daughters at the time (both in college now), and the youngest fit perfectly in the center so I added the belt for safety reasons.

I'll probably end up doing it on my 74 also, as I again have two young daughters and two young sons - so the center seat (cushion) will get plenty of use.

Know where I can get a center seat belt?

Regards,

Gerard

How about just going to a VW junk yard, and geting some good used back seat belts, they are cheap look good, and i am sure will fit.
