steering column wobble

Hey there all.....

Got into my car the other day to find that if I grab the wheel and pull left or right, the whole column shifts an inch in either direction. How do I tighten this? Do I have to remove the lower dash pad?

Thanks in advance/..
Mike

Mike,

Here's one possible cure: look under the wheel column where it goes through the dash. You should see some holes that lead up through the dash/knee pad to the steering column (I think . . . or is it just behind the pad?). There are four Allen bolts in there. See if they're loose. Mine were so loose it took several turns to get them to tighten.

Good luck!

My allen bolts were loose, too, and in fact, I'm going to check them again when I get home. They gradually loosen over time.

There is a bushing that wears over time inside the steering column at the dash. There is a replacement bushing that is expensive. And,I thought I read once that there is a nylon bushing that can be placed with the existing bushing to take up the slack...

As no rust scott said, bushing internal to the the column wears. Call Pelican, they will have the part you need, I don't recall it being expensive though.

Hmmmmm......It seems to have loosened recently, so I am hoping it just needs tightening. Thank you guys for you suggestions.
