Parade tech quiz
YES!!!
I have entered four Parades now, and am two and two in the Tech Quiz. I've twice gotten second place overall, and twice won the whole thing! Including this year. ![]() Just want to crow a bit... --DD PS--everyone who does not congratulate me will be BANNED FOR LIFE! (Oh, OK--just kidding! )

Parade this.
You still have that nice little blue car? I always thought that gulf color scheme looked good, I guess maybe because cars painted like that seemed to win a lot. Would be easy to do in vinyl, even as a magnet you could take off. What sort of things do they ask you on the test?

Thanks, Jeff!
Tobra, they ask you about 50 combined history/tech/trivia questions. 15 of them are 914-specific, the other 35 are more general about Porsche (and all Porsche models) and this year, due to them being the sponsor, about Porsche Design. In previous years, there were more questions. --DD

Wow. I would have gotten two of those correct. 1 by luck.
Good job. Did you get a trophy, cash, or just the adoration of fellow Porsche geeks like me?

Trophy, and of course the adulation.
The trophies this year are really nice! Hand-made glass pieces; the three we got are vases of different sizes. (Lisa won her class at the autoX, making it the second year in a row for her. I won the 914 class in the Quiz, which I've done every year so far, and I got the biggest trophy for the overall win.) Hmm, maybe I should take a pic so I can post it... ![]() --DD

Lisa, your wife I'm guessing, drive your car?
Is your car bone stock or any upgrades? I'm hopefully moving to the sacremento area next summer so I'm kind of looking forward to an actual porsche scene.

Lisa is not yet my wife, but it's just a matter of time...
![]() My car has some upgrades--it fits in well with the former class structure around here, as an "improved" category car. Now it's in something of a "bad spot" in the current rules setup. My car has now won its class at Parade three times! None of them with me driving... There is quite a bit going on around the Sac'to area. SVR is a pretty active region. --DD

Congrats on the win Dave. I got second in the 914 class. Was glad to see the overall winner come from the 914 class. Nice to take home one of those cool trophies.

Thanks, Manny!
I saw your name in the results, and was surprised. I didn't realize you were a 914 guy.The trophies are really cool! We've got a group of three--one for the 914 class of the Quiz, one for the stock-ish 914 Ladies autoX class win, and one for the overall Quiz victory. They're very nice; someone obviously put a lot of work into them! --DD

Yup, gotta all original 73 914 2.0 that won Overall Preservation back in 1996. Now it spends its days winning local concours and dominating its class at regional autocrosses. I was happy with a 2nd out of 18 in the tech quiz.

Dave,
I was very impressed with your score on the tech quiz. It far exceeded the next closest score and blew my score away! I had a feeling you would place well in the 914 category based on what I've read on this board. Were the majority of your misses in the general category? I faired best with those questions myself but still got less than 50% of them correct. I agree that this year's trophies were very nice. It took over a year to produce all that were required for Parade this year. I have the task of coming up with something for 2008. Any suggestions? I have a good idea of what I would like to do but nothing is set yet so now's your chance to have a say. Congratulations on all your wins. ![]() Do you see any of your trophies in the photo?

Very cool, Will! And thanks! I got 41 total out of 50 (plus 6 tie breakers). I missed two of the 914 questions, so that leaves 7 generals that I missed. I actually thought I missed a couple more than that...
The 41 wasn't much of an outlier, there was at least one person who scored each of 40, 39, 38, and 37. But they were pretty darned tricky questions! I did better than average on my guesses, even considering I could narrow things down on a lot of those... I got one of the big trophies in the middle, and one of the medium-large ones just to the right. Lisa's 1st-in-class autoX victory got her one of the medium-small ones on the right. We didn't get any of the paperweights; my driving was far too sucky to trophy in the autoX. I don't know what you can do about trophies, particularly following these. They are really amazing!! The Portland ones are pretty decent (they look somewhat like old "banjo" steering wheels), and I don't remember what the Fort Worth trophies looked like. I do know the Sac'to ones were rather unimpressive; just flat rectangular plastic plates. Maybe I could keep parts on them while I was working on the car? ![]() --DD

I got a 37, but screwed up 2 that I should've gotten right. The one about the most aerodynamic or drag coefficient, I choose the 66 911 when the answer was a car I own....964 narrow body. The other was the national observers report due date after the event. Being a national officer, you'd think I would've known that
I didn't feel too bad, alot of the other national folk also missed it. Aren't you glad I've got a volunteer and not a paid position in PCA?

I missed that one too, but in the other direction! I know that car manufacturers are always reducing the Cd of their cars, so I picked the 993.
