You may have no time to work on your car after you answer all our questions!
Please provide details on your "box-stands" on casters. What a fantastic way to hold and move the car. I would like to build some.

J P Stein 08-05-2001 12:24 PM

I gotta admit, it's a hell of a lot easier to
sit in front of this puter than to go work on the car....or mow the lawn, yada, yada.Makes for a good break, tho.

Tbe Boxes are about 16 X 16, made of 3/4 ply,with swivel casters rated at 400lbs ea.,as I recall(cheep at Harbor Freight).
Total height is bout 22 inches.
One needs about 33 inches under the rear
( w/o valence) bumper to get a fully dressed 6 under there.

Inside each box is a X brace of 3/4 ply.
All is screwed & glued together. They are stout.....my soft pink body spent a lot of time under that thing, so I didn't skimp.

Here's a pic, natch....

Just wanted to say great job on car and boxes to hold it. Great ingenuity and DIY job. I am about to do mild rebuild,(rings, studs, valve job, etc.), on my '82 SC motor and have been researching like crazy. The pro engine builders want you to believe that you can't work on your own 911 motor so just send it to them, but I'm pretty confident with Bentley manual, etc..
Just wanted to say also that 190 degrees is super for 911 motor-with good oil in it you should have one tough and slow wearing engine. Congrats on what looks like a really good job!

i've found the low-end digicams ($150-$200) are pretty good. my sig shot was taken with a $199 fuji.

nice 914's also. always liked them, much better than 911's.

Hey JP,

Is that color L97G Metallic Gold? If it is I had one that color once. Very unique and hardly seen color, especially now. Your car is sure one clean machine, are you using Photopoint to clean the dirt and oil off your pictures before posting them? Only kidding. Looks great!

I am wondering how that box that was built by JP Stein is used. I assume that there is a picture of the car sitting on top of that box, but some images do not make it past the server. How many boxes are used?

Just curious.

Pritchard, and anyone else having problems with this, here are the steps to get Netscape to show the pics here that are not showing up.

1) Click-and-hold (Mac) or left-click (LINUX or Windoze) to get the pop-up menu.
2) Select "copy this image location".
3) Command-L (Mac) or whatever the hot-key is to load a URL.
4) Paste in the location you just copied.
5) Replace all spaces in the location with the characters "%20" -- a percent sign followed by a 2 and then a 0.
6) Hit return (or enter).

You'll have to go back to get back to the thread, and the pictures will not show up with the thread--but at least you'll be able to see them.

Wayne says it's some kind of thing with Netscape not following published naming standard conventions. I'm not so sure it isn't MS once again doing MS-only stuff...

Hey JP,

I know this board has had this thread before, but what kind of paint are you using on the floor? How is it holding up? How much did it cost? Did you DIY?

I'm in the middle of building my house and will be needing some soon.

Thanks and I love your car. Different.

J P Stein 08-08-2001 04:28 PM

I've been told (and it's apparently true),
that leaving a space in the title of the picture causes Netscape to go bonkers.

I'll be sure to not do this no mo.......
Here's another try at it. Let me know if it works.

JP. Whatever you did allowed me to see the picture. I'll print out DD's instructions for next time. Thanks!

Hello all, stopped by in here (it's been awhile) and I see those boxes. Where 'o' where in HF did you find them? I've searched their website and can't locate them anywhere.

Thanks.
Kevin

Germain ,

Read one of the earlier messages left by PC.

He made the boxes and bought the casters at HFT........

What I want to know is-how did you get the boxes low enough to get them under the car?
http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

J P Stein 08-12-2001 02:00 PM

It's called "thinking outside the box"........I jacked up the car, hee, hee.

Ahem....An 18 inch rise floor jack, lotta' blocking. More blocking on the jack, up we go again till we get where we need to go.

Takes bout a half hour when doing it by ones
self. Scramble around like a cat covering s*** on the freeway. Then it's time for a long break......bout an hour for an olefart.

The whole lash-up can be moved around by one person.......but it's mo better with 2.
