Just cracked a head on my 74 2.0, looking to see what my options are new/used whatever. TIA

Mine were badly cracked and I had them welded. The welding was inexpensive, the rest of the rebuild wasn't.

Air cooled heads will crack typically....don't toss them until the machinist sees them....one that KNOWS air cooled heads.

The 2.0 heads crack badly around the plugs...

They can be repaired, in 95% of instances..

We ALWAYS install 12mm spark plugs to beef the area a bit to stop the cracking problem...

Jake,

How about the thread inserts? That way I can still use my standard 14 mm plugs.

Inserts will not work, the area must be welded, and profiled, which will move the spark plug up slightly higher, away from the valve seats, and the weak area of the head.

Jake,

Mine weren't cracked, I just wondered if putting inserts in would prevent them from cracking.

How bout a source for another set? I'd rather not take the car off the road to send them out and get them welded, its my daily unfortunatly.
