Tower Paint, www.towerpaint.com, as many of you know, will mix up a rattle can of car paint to the color code of your car. Cost is $14.95 per 12oz. can.
The problem is my cars color is L95K, Palma Green Metallic. It's a special order color from the factory and they say they cannot find the formula in their books. They can still make the rattle can for me, but they'll need a piece of the car 2"x3" for the color match. Plus now the price goes up $15 (one time) because of color match. Any suggestions for small parts to ship to them for the color match? The car appears to have been repainted at least once long ago and the color is very close to the color of the trunks, but not quite. So taking off a headlight cover probably won't work. Or better yet, does anybody know of a place that'll do the same thing in the Seattle-Tacoma area? The south end is better... ------------------ Eric '75 914 2.0L [This message has been edited by RustyWa (edited 09-20-2001).] |

Pretty sure that color was a two part mix....either way, I just did a car that color last year. PPG has it....

Mike, what do you mean a two part mix?
How did the car that you painted look for color? My cars paint is a little long in the tooth, but looks good from 10-15 feet, so I'm kind of curious how a repaint would look. [This message has been edited by RustyWa (edited 09-20-2001).] |

If the inside of the trunks are the original color, it is quite likely that the inside of the headlight covers will be as well.
Just tell them to use that side, rather than the re-painted side... --DD ------------------ Pelican Parts 914 Tech Support A few pics of my car: http://www.pelicanparts.com/gallery/Dave_Darling |

Two part mix means, clear coat over base....
At least that is how it would be done now.... |

I had some paint cans mixed up for my wheels to match the paint. I got it done at a local auto parts store. They mix PPG paint. They couldn't find my paint code either so they had to use some kind of electronic device to match the paint. Its not really matched perfectly, but it is close enough for me. Call around to local autoparts stores and ask. I paid under $20 for mine, for three cans. If I would have gonna just one it would have cost $14.95 but its cheaper for 3 because he uses the whole pint that they have to mix.

I have a 914/6 conversion. I just ordered some cans from Sherwin-Williams. The color is Olympic Blue from the 1974 year.
Its pretty amazing. Its the «sunfire» type of paint. It matches up the original color and finish. So far i am quite satified with it. 15CAN$ a can (about 10US$). |

Interesting topic.
Are you using this type of "spray" paint for body touch-ups and is it suitable? I can see the wheel-matching that Stay15 did, but how you going to match texture and finish on the body? I'd like to consider something like this for my 74 Ravenna Green 914, since a complete paint job is a couple of years out.
