I am going to look at a 1972 914 and want to know what areas should be examined for wear/rust. I know all the 911 weak spots but I am new to the 914

I recommend a PPI. Rust can be everywhere, under the rockers, under the battery tray, in the trunk.
Be sure to also check the front truck to see if it has been wrecked... |

Just look everywhere, and you'll be covered :-D
Seriously, the main spots to look for rust would be the battery tray and rear suspension mount, the longitudinals, the rear trunk, the seat mounting bracket area, and around the windshield. I was lucky to find mine w/ very little rust on it...and what I found was non-structural and easily POR-15 treatable. And I live on the east coast! Good luck, Nathan ------------------ '73 2.0 914 |
