Lights go off when turning on hi-beam
Hi guys
I have a problem with my head lights. When i change from normal light to hi-beam it all goes dark but if i switch back again it comes on again. Any idea what causes this? Have changed the relay where the fuses are for another used one, changed the bulbs and looked over the earth contacts where the head lamps are situated. Also my instrument lights have gone dark but checked the bulbs. Bjorn |
sounds like either the switch or the relay. Are you sure you changed out the right relay? Do you hear the relay click when you switch over? Try a new one, it is the same relay that is used in a '69-70 VW(pretty much all of them) The VW is $10, the Porsche one is like triple that. Mine had the same symptoms and it was the relay

Ok, ill try a new relay but it "clicks" when i turn it on and both low and hi-beam is on if i hold the hi-beam lever and does not let it go

Sounds like the relay isn't "latching". I can't think of what else would cause that other than a bad relay...

mine clicked and did not work

sounds like a fuse to me.
check your fuses and make sure they are seated properly and known to be good |
Yepp, both relays was defective. New one installed and now it works.
Thanks guys! |
I have the same issue. Where's the relay located? I have to change it this week.

Its located on the backside of the fuse panel. Just unscrew the 2 screws holding the panel in place and you should see it next to the indicator relay.
