What is the deal with this rearview mirror?
I guess it's a good sign that my car is so sorted out that all I have to worry about is the mirror, but my inside mirror is making me bat***** crazy. It wobbles and shakes because it doesn't seat properly into the windshield mount. It's like the arm is too big for the mount. Was there more than one factory mirror or mount on the 914? Is there a way to remove the mount without cracking the glass?

HA! JB Weld would work .. of course ... but that is so ... ah ... permanent.
Rrrrock ... is there a way to put a piece of teflon tape or a wedge of some sort into the bracket. You won't have to mess with the mirror until it falls off and you have to glue it back on anyway. I still recommend a drop of Superglue ![]() Best regards, Rick

Look at the bottom of the mirror arm. There'll be a small round hole, with a flat-head screw up inside it. The screw holds the arm onto the base. You may be able to tighten the screw, or remove it and pull the arm off so you can wrap something around the arm where it goes into the base.

I've tightened the screw as much as I can without stripping it, and I don't want to strip it, because I once cracked a windshield trying to remove a glued-on mount with stripped threads. I now wish I had just mounted a nice, modern rearview mirror, but no, I had to go for the original look.
