headlamp gremlins

I finished the engine part of my restore this week!!

As usual though there is always soemthing else to fix. This time both of my headlamps will only work on bright. Is this typical for a short, problem with the relay, or problem with the lamps themselves?

If this is a short, can someone describe to me what I am supposed to do with my multimeter to find it?

Also, I doubt my additional electrical gremlins are related (the oil temp light and the generator light coming on at random times (However, I should try what has been suggested in previous posts before asking any q's). Nonetheless, if there could be some common things where i should chect to se if they are related, i would appreciate it.

Thanks- Hugh

this might seem stupid, but have you checked your fuses?

Could also be a fried highbeam switch (turn signal stalk) or even the low-beam bulb filaments themselves. Remember that H4's (if that's what you've got) are dual-filament bulbs and the high or low can burn out independently.

Good luck,

Yip, checked the fuses, but if so, that wouldnt have been the first time I forgot something like that.

I dont have H4's, but I am thinking the high beam swith right now.

Thanks- hugh

Doesn't matter if you haven't done the H4 conversion. Single unit sealed beam (one light per side arrangement) generally use a dual filaments as well. I'd say to buy a new headlamp and install it. If it fixes the problem, great. If not, it's not as though you won't need it eventually anyway.
