front oil cooler install- a little different

I am clicking along with the 100's of items still left to do on my /6 conversion with the front oil cooler being one of them. I did quite a bit of internet research to see how most guys are doing their cooler installations and I came to the conclusion I didn't want the cooler mounted in the front trunk. So I decided to mount the cooler in front of the tub under the bumper and build it into the front valance. I started last weekend and made more progress today. I will be running a 1978 3.0 with carbs and I found this Behr cooler on one of the forums. I still have to " box in " the cooler but snapped a couple pics. It looks like I'll have good air flow thru and behind the cooler and over 6 inches off the road surface to the bottom of the cooler. I may run the cooler lines thru the trunk or route them thru the wheelwells I'm not sure yet. So what do you guys think?

I guess I hadn't thought about mounting the cooler in front of the car. Mine is mounted in the front trunk with the lines running inside the left wheelwell.

I would worry about two things. First is getting enough air flow through the cooler. I am running a modified 2.7L and I had to put the cooler on because of high oil temps. The just removed the rubber plugs from the front of the car and the body plugs in the front trunk. On hot days it still runs a bit hotter than I want. I may have to get more air flow though the cooler.

The second thing I would worry about is a fender bender. It is less protected in the front like that. But those would be my concerns. I wish you the best of luck with it.

Well air flow will not be an issue just look at the room behind the cooler. And if I'm in a fender bender this will probably be the least of my worries. There probably isn't a perfect setup out there just different.

It is the exit air I would worry about. You are going to put the bumper cover back on and IIRC that will enclose the cooler and it doesn't allow for the exiting the air flow. So you need to open up the bumper behind the cooler to allow for the air to exit. That is all I was getting at.

No bumper cover going on this car, it is a 75 chassis but I'm backdating with early bumper and running the valance pictured. So basically what you see in the pic is what it will look like except I am going to box in the cooler with sheet metal so the cooler has a surrounding. Appreciate the feedback
