Rota Fox 17" Wheels on a 914 V8
This is sort of a cross post because I put similar information on the 911 site (sorry Dave) but I thought it was important enough to duplicate.
I just bought some Rota Fox wheels from WheelDude and put them on my 914 V8. I previously ran 205/16's on fuchs 6" wheels and with a V8 I had trouble getting traction and wanted to be able to put on a brembo front brake kit that required 17" wheels. I had a set of 235/40/17 RA-1s that I put on the Rota wheels, 7" in front and 9" in back. Bottom line: the fronts fit great but the rears took a bit of messaging with my baseball bat to fit. They really require some type of flair, which I will do when I paint the car. Anyway, they fit and here are a couple of pictures of my car in primer with them on. Jim ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks good! Really aggressive! Do they rub with the flare you have, or how much wider do they need to be?

My car is setup pretty low and stiff. I have a '80s 911 front end and in the rear I have renegade hybrids 200lb springs.
With that said, I weigh 165 and my son who rides with me is about 145, and we rarely rub in the rear and never in the front during canyon runs. Since this photo I have continued to use an aluminum bat to roll the fenders out a little more and it seeks to help. The tire tends to rub on the back of the fender only. It is amazing how much the metal will stretch if you take your time with it. Before painting I will work to smooth it out and then fill in the rough areas with some type of body filler. I will post more pics in a couple of weeks of the completed job. Jim Last edited by Willyspu; 10-25-2008 at 01:41 PM.. |

Looks good as norrow body. More of a sleeper type. My vote (even though I don't get one, nor should I:-) is no flares. -Bill

I like the flares. It reminds me of the two prototype 914-8's.
