Hey! Nice Rack! "Celette"
|
console?
Rick, Did you find a console? Wayne,(or anyone) I have a console I accquired awhile back from a 71 donor. I've never seen one like it.(Like i'm some kind of world traveler of something ha ha) No,really it's hard plastic, has a molded place for the 3rd seat pad, It's wider at the top for the gauges where it meets the dash.It separates into two pieces. If someone can use this let me know.
Thanks, rich |

Didn't I see you at Pomona this weekend? If I didn't then I must have seen something exactly like it. You said it was real comfortable to rest your arm on?
Maybe I'm just delerious from working too much... -Wayne |

I wish I was in Pomona this weekend. Although it's pretty nice on the shores of the inland sea. I live by Lake Superior. We had 40 deg. and sunny. No Porsche or BMW swap meets though. Too much snow! As I understand from a resent e-mail, this maybe some kind of after market console. and yes the pad is about arm rest hight. Was the one you saw for sale? I have an interested party for mine but have no idea what to charge. By the way, looks like things are starting to come to gether. The long hours will pay off. I'm looking forward to seeing the BMW site addition when it's completed.

The console you've described was an accessory that was sold at the dealer. It is shown in a Porsche accesory catalog I have from 1972 (along with luggage racks, rear bumper overriders, A/C, etc.) They came with two toggle switches installed that were for whatever electrical accessories you might want to hook up. I have only seen one in real life and that was at AA. They are probably pretty rare. I believe they were dropped in 1973 when the 2.0 console came out.

THANKS Patrick! The toggle switches looked like power window switches. Does your catalog show a price? theres also a hidden toggle switch on the drivers side just behind the gauge cluster. Don't know what it for though.
Thank for the info. Kool COOL |

I posted a picture of this console at:
http://www.angelfire.com/ga/karmann/images/accp10.jpg This is from the accessory catalog I mentioned in the above post. Check http://www.angelfire.com/ga/karmann/ for the rest of the catalog. It also includes some 911 stuff. |

Interestingly enough, this console is shown installed in a 911, not a 914...

I have a set of those hub caps for the steel wheels, and i thought they were just some VW caps! i had no idea they were actually a dealer option.

I made the two 914 pages in the accessory brochure a little lighter so you can make out more of the console now. I also added two color/upholstery brochures from '71 and '72 to the site. More later...

Ah, it's much clearer now. I love this BBS thing. I think it's the best feature on our site, and now that we're on our new server, I can't believe how fast it is, especially condsidering that I'm on a 26.4K connection through compuserve...

Clarification: The console was manufactured and sold by Amco but was also sold through the Porsche-Audi dealer organization. The accessory catalog pictured above contains many Amco items along with other non-Amco products like VDO guages, Blaupunkt radios and air conditioning systems (VPC or DPD). The console was not a dealer option, per se, but an accessory that could be purchased from the dealer.
