.009 Dist Question

Hello Pelican Nation!

I come to you again looking for advice on my '72. I have recently installed a rebuilt 1.8l engine in the car and while at it, made the swap to a dual Weber carb set. Upon completion I installed the stock distributor and the engine ran well although I had read that it would run even better with a .009 distributor installed for the advanced spark curve that it gives. So, I purchased a Hot Spark distributor with electronic ignition to save myself a bit of hassle adjusting points. Upon installing the new distributor I now can't get any spark out if it. I've pulled a plug, grounded it and there is no spark anywhere in the rotation so now its onto trouble shooting. I've read that I may need a different voltage regulator but I'm not sure of what to get or if there is something else that I should check first. Have any of you run into this or have any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

First off... take that POS .009 distributor out of your car and give it a float test.

Float test: Throw the part in a large body of water. If it floats, reinstall it.

The .009 distributor has a very very poor advance curve, and will not work on a 914 engine.

The stock 1.8L distributor will work much better than an 009. Just get an electronic conversion kit from our host and install it.
