2.0 backfires

My 74 2.0 has a real backfiring problem when I let it coast and wind down from about 3200 RPM until it hits about 1900 RPM. I replaced all 4 injectors after 2 quit completely, but it backfired before the new ones went in. This problem is very annoying, considering it sounds like a rifle shot, and a 10 inch flame comes out the exhaust pipe (bursch). It lit up my friends car when he was beside me on the highway. Any one have any ideas?

Sounds like your timing is way off lol. your leaving unburnt gas in the exaust.

Sounds pretty cool to me. When you find out what it is tell me. I can't wait until I can get all four of my Anza tips to blow flames!!!!!!

Actually I had a similiar problem combined with a lack of power. My problem was loose connectors (one was completely rotten off but looked OK) at the injectors. Also check the timing, dwell, CHT resistence, and the function of the pressure sensor in that order.

I liked JP's comments. If I ever had a tailgater, it might be a nice feature.

Just a gut feel, but any time things happen in pairs with the fuel injection, you might want to check the FI points in the distributer.
