Need a little help

Hello all;
First let me say thanks to you all for these forums and to Pelican Parts for all that you have done. I can't even begin to tell you how helpful this site has been to a novice car restorer like myself. I bought my 914 1.7 new in 1973 and am restoring it. I am in the process of putting it back together now. Here is my problem. When I removed the blower unit, the heater one, by the wiper motor, I, in typical Kelly fashion shattered the majority of the plug trying to unplug it from the unit and ended up with 4 wires in my hand. I can salvage the plug with my ever constant tube of super glue but I need to know where the wires go. I have 1 red with a white stripe, 1 solid white, 1 white with a yellow stripe, and 1 white with a green stripe. So if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. Lets say I've tilted the unit toward me and am looking at the posts.

Thanks for reading
DKelly

Looking at the plug closer I noticed it is numbered 1,2,3, and 4.
If this helps :)

There are wiring or current flow diagrams for the 73 right here in another section of the Pelican site. Link to the diagram is:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/914/parts/Electrical/914_electric_73C.jpg

Item 63 is the fresh air fan, and the diagram appears to show
I=Grn/Wht
II=Yel/Wht
III= Wht
The last terminal is unlabeled so it is probably IV, and is Red/Wht.

Other sites (Club, World, NARP, ....) may have diagrams that can be downloaded as pdf files if you want to.

Vacuume hoses

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a diagram of vacuum hose routing for 73 1.7. I am finding 1.8L and 2.0. I wouldn't think they would change the routing that much but I want to make sure.

Thanks
DKelly

How about

Try go cruise the 914 tech section
Tab at top of page

I need to do the same job as you with the heater box in my car for paint, but my grandson is on the way over, so the car waits

Thanks I'll do that. Congrats on the grandson. There's no greater joy than family :)

Do I have to use Metric hose or can I convert and use US standard? I use 3/8 and 5/16 for my fuel lines. How critical is it to have the sizes slightly different for vacuum?

Tobra 06-17-2009 07:05 PM

you want them tight
I would just replace all of them with the right stuff if I had the scratch, do it right, do it once

You will want to look at new fuel injection hoses too, and maybe replace the fuel line in the tunnel, if has never been done, guy at 914world has some SS replacement ones that are pretty nice, all pre-bent, that is a two man job replacing that
