I recently acquired a 74 914 with a single weber carb. Is there that great a performance improvement going to dual webers? Has anyone ever gone back and added fuel injection? How abut a good source of rebuilt brain boxes? My carb car seems to run fine, but it seems to lose a bit at the top end.. Thanks for your advice

If you haave the time and resolve. Nothing beats the Stock FI on a stock motor.

With some time spent tunig you can get a 2.0 to run good on daul weber 44 IDF 36mm Venturis, 55 idle.170 air 135 Mains.F6or F12 tubes. As for the one barrle you need to heat the base of the carb to keep from icing up. S-10 pikups have a heated plate find one and putit in you will have much better drivablity. Steve

I'm with Joe. Unless you are, or know someone, good at massaging a carb go with the FI. I've never had any trouble with mine. As far as a source for the brain, you already found it. Pelican has them listed on this site.

Carbs, FI Carbs, FI yada yada yada. I guess I will have to drive a FI car.
This morning it was 38 degrees real tough to warm them carbs up. But oh boy running down the road cool air is better. Gee good thing I jimmie rigged some ducting for my heater last night!

I have been fussing with FI gremlins on two different engines for a year now. One was stock and one has a mild cam both were fresh rebuilds. I recently put new Dual Weber 40's on the cammed engine. All I did was take them out of the box, bench set them the same, and bolt them on the motor. The car immediatly started and ran. With about an hour of leaing out and balancing the car runs great. It is very responsive an sounds great. Needless to say I will soon be posting a bunch of FI stuff on this site.

For those who wish good mileage and smooth operation, cold or hot, month after month, and also can tune, trouble shoot and repair their FI (or otherwise hire a shop to do the work), FI is the way to go. Probably, an FI car will sell for more than one with carbs, all else being equal. I own one.
But, but, but, their is nothing like dual carbs with a little cam thrown in, maybe a hot ignition, couple of other mods and what a blast to drive. I own one. Phil |

The Chevy part number for the S10 heater is 10174802 (It is referred to as "Insulator"). Cost 55.62 new.

Heated S-10 Plate
Steve & all - that little plate (if I'm correct) is called an EFI grid. I t is a ceramic baffle that gets heated up via electrical connection.
S10s, Jeeps, etc with the GM 2.8 carbed engine wouldn't pass smog without it. |
