Need help with ID on steering part
Stay with me now.
This first photo is of a U-Joint in the steering system that was attached to the end of the steering wheel/ignition key module. The shaft coming off of it is known as the 'intermediate shaft' and the other end attaches to the U-Joint on the steering rack. I know this came from a 914 because I just pulled it off.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271519154.jpg This next shot is of another U-Joint I found in the shop. I know it is from a steering module that I took off an early 914 about six or seven years ago. Notice how it attaches to the steering shaft with a snap-ring and is not bolted like the other. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271519333.jpg What I am wondering is: Why the difference? Were the early U-Joints different? Is the bigger U-Joint from a 911? The entire steering shaft from what I think is the older one... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271519620.jpg Any help will be appreciated. Thanks! |
Yup the 2nd one is early. I know this because I have one of the earliest cars around. #947.

Thanks, Joe. I recall the car I took this from was a 1971 that was rusted so bad it bent in the middle.
