Well, I just read the "part II" of the 914 Restoration in Grassroots. Another decent article and some good info pertaining to making HP with the stock FI system. Again, Pelican Parts was mentioned, as well as Jim Smolka (or at least a quote from Jim). But what's got me confused is where's Jake Raby? I've gleaned more good info on building type IV's from reading Jake's posts (plus the Bug Me Video), than from all of the books and articles I've read!

I too was a little surprised that an outfit in Florida
could overlook Jake, in Georgia, and go to Massachusetts to have the engine rebuilt by someone who caters to those racing watercooled VW's. No knock against the people at Shine Racing, but why not mention Jake, at least? |

No disrespect intented here, but.....
How many posters have you seen on this list saying: "Jake built me a motor, it goes like stink and has for 30K miles"? When 10 or so regular listers do this, his reputation will be made. There are no shortcuts to a good "Rep".(rule #24 in the olefarts bible)

Another reason is the magazine includes companies in there stories which advertize with them. At the end of the articles there is always a list of suppliers and shops they used, they are also always (or nearly always) advertizers. It a business.... nothing wrong with that. If Jake had a full page ad every month they would have used him.
