saratoga top
Does anyone know the value of an aftermarket
top for the 914 called a "saratoga top." It is basically a smoked acrylic replacment top that does not fit as well as a factory top. But the person selling his 75 914 2.0 claims that this top is very rare. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

I once talked to sean at Auto Atlanta about a top that sounds like the one you described. They made it in-house a guess. Anyway I wanted to buy it. Sean told me that I could not. He said they were no longer available because they could not get DOT approbal because they had a tendency to fly off when on the interstate.

There were Saratoga Tops made for the 911 targa and 914 back in the early 70s. Don't know why they went away, but I haven't seen one in years, so I think they are quite rare. Don't know if they stay on or not, but they sure seemed like a neat idea. Some people put moonroofs in the 914 top panel, but they looked pretty stupid. The Saratoga Tops were one piece, smoked acrylic. Whatever floats your boat!
