I'm putting my matching case on the shelf while I run a 3.2 in my six.

Are you looking for an engine to rebuild?
I have a complete 2.2T with zeniths up near the SF bay area. It had been sitting for a while when I got it. I cleaned up and rebuilt the carbs, and it ran well enough that I went back and forth to LA with it, but a week after that trip it wouldn't start. Spins fine, but doesn't feel like it has compression. Probably needs valve job and rings at least. Worth probably $1200 as a complete core.

Wait, I forgot the hydraulic tensioners. Make that more like $1500.

Flat Six, Inc., do you know anything about the car engine number 6400797 came from? I sold a 914-6, 9140430225, to a dentist in Grass Valley back in 1989 and have been curious as to where it might be now. I had owned it for 18(!) years prior to that.

When I had it 0225 was Signal Orange, and had Minilite wheels.

Steam Driver: If you have records that show that was the engine from your car, I'm not doubting you, but otherwise, it seems unlikely that a chassis as low as #225 would have come with engine #797, >500 serials later. Most engine-to-VIN numbers don't line up exactly, but they went through chassis faster than engines because the engine codes were split between US and Europe while the chassis VINs were shared. So chassis numbers went up faster than engines. Also, 6400797 indicates a non-US engine, was your car imported privately?

cheers,
dug

I think you misunderstood; no, I don't have records indicating that. I haven't been able to find anyplace I recorded my old -6's engine number. I have the chassis number long ago memorized however.

I was merely asking Flatsix if he had any idea what car that engine might have come out of, since he's in the Minneapolis area and I sold the car into the car into the Minneapolis area. I'm ignorant of what series engines were in what cars; just fishing for information if it's out there.

My guess is that this car is long since victim of the tinworm; it was beginning to show a good start on that when I sold it.

Oops, sorry 'bout that. Poorly worded. What I meant was I found the engine number recorded here in the flyleaf of a book in my library of Porsche literature.

No, didn't find the car or engine, but thought I should throw the number out there in case it turns up someplace and leads to where the car is what happened to it.

FYI - I checked the 914world VIN database, but nobody has reported it there.

914-6 complete engine.

I stumbled a crossed a 914-6 and a standard transmission. The engine was running when pulled from the former race car. It has the dual weber carbs, wire harness, and clutch. I also have the stock intake.

I'm not much a porsche only because I can't afford it. So my question is how much would a complete motor go for? I've noticed some people think very highly of the motors and are asking an arm and leg. I just want to be realistic.
Fireinthehole101@gmail.com for reply.thank you
