What would a pair of Webers do for my 1.8?
 

Hi guys! I have a 1.8 that was carbureted by the previous owner with a poorly functioning carb of unknown manufacturer. The acceleration for the car is okay, but it does not idle and there are some "needle and seat" problems with the carb that my mechanic says makes it not worth rebuilding.

I have alittle cash to drop on the car, so, what would a set of Webers do for the engine? More power? Better performance? Or would it be better to buy a new carb of unknown manufacturer and replace it in kind? I really have no idea how this will impact the car so I am just curious.

I think about your only choice considering you want dual carbs is dells or webers.
I cant notice much increase in power over the stock FI on my 1.8
The biggest difference is the noise(which I like).
I prefer carbs due to my knowlegde over them as compared to The FI.
The biggest impact you may need to think about is emissions.

A 914 converted to carbs with no other changes seem to run poorly mainly due to the cams I guess. Since the original FI system is not around an pair of Webers would be much better than what you have now. They are easy to tune, easy to work on and are pretty smooth as far as running. Good luck.

If you're committed to carbs, duals are the way to go over singles. They should work much better in just about every way than the single-carb setup that is now on the car. (Probably the single "Pinto Weber") The dual Webers and Dells both have their proponents.
