914 Widebody Track Tire Advice
I picked up a new track toy recently. 3.0L, Sheridan body. I got it on the track once while home on leave. I love it. 3rd Pcar (944, 3.2 911), 1st 914. My dad always raved about his 72 914-6 that he bought new. The previous owner of this car ran Khumo V710 265/45R16 on 16x10 wheels. He said they were a good compromise of grip, price and longevity. I just ordered some of the last V710 and W710s in the US. Khumo says they aren't bringing anymore into the country in the near future. After I run through this set, I'll need to switch to another tire.
R6s come in 275/45R16. I really don't want to go down the $500/tire slicks yet. I'm still only doing DEs. Not wanting to buy 8 new rims to go to 17in, what do guys running similar setups recommend? I'm in the middle east right now, but I'll be back in a month and will be able measure clearances. I'm just looking for some quick advice. Hoosier Bias ply slicks are priced similar to their A/R 6s. Radial slicks are about 100 bucks a pop more. I ran 22.5 X 10 X 16 R35s They list at about 280 a pop. R45/55 are available, IIRC.
Good car color.:D ....... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1297007097.jpg |
Nice looking car, congrats!
You may also check into the Toyo RA1. Finding tire sizes in the smaller diameters is getting more challenging. If/when you get into competition events the Hoosier R6 is generally considered the way to go for ultimate performance, barring actual race slicks, but you certainly pay the price. |
Thanks for the input. That's the kind of stuff I was looking for!

Slicks are VERY scarce in 17"
Stay with 15's 16" John Berget for really good take off's which are perfect for lapping / DE |
i like that car color too
