High Idle D-Jet 73 2.0 ?
I was hunting for my temp sensor this afternoon. With Dave's help I found it.
But now it seems to idle at 1600 rpm. Can't find any loose or disconnected hoses. But when I plug the what I think is the AAR the idle smooths out to 1100. Smooth as silk. Never does it idle rough. How long should the AAR add extra air ? Maybe I'm not waiting long enough. I don't see a wire going to what I think is the AAR ? What makes it work ?

AAR
The AAR is just in front of the intake mainfold on the left side. It is actually attached to the intake manifold. Looks like a small canister with a hose coming in from the right and a hose going out at about a 90 degree angle towards the back of the manifold. It has a power lead underneath that heats a bi-metallic strip that expands to close the valve inside. It should take 5 to 10 minutes to heat up and cut off the air flow.
Good luck. Pritchard |

When cold the AAR valve is open, air passes through. It little heater heats up (about 5-10 min) and closes the valve. They are really prone to sticking open. Squirt some PBlaster into in and let it lube up the shaft inside. Then is should work fine. If not make sure the power to it is working.

Thanks guys for the help.
Bleyseng, I'd pulled the wire loose from terminal junction. Repaired it. Works like a champ.

About once a year I pull the AAR and soak in in WD40 for a few hours, usually when doing other maintenance. That keeps it free of carbon and sludge and makes sure it will move when heated. If the connection does not have a fuse in the line, I'd recommend adding one since the heater element can short out easily. Good luck.

Great idea. What AMP on the fuse ?
I'll pick one up today. Going to do the same on the dash lights on both cars. That circuit isn't fused either on Porsche.

The AAR draws about 1 amp. The resistance of the coil is 13 ohms, so at about 12V-14V, that's about one amp of current.
I don't know what the fuel pump draws. --DD
