clutch replacement pt II

Hey All,

I'm finally getting to my clutch job this weekend. As I type, I'm knee deep in grease and grime. I have removed the muffler, the starter, the speedo cable, the wiring, and the shift linkage. Basically, I'm to the CV joint step. For those of you who remember my difficulties prior to today, this will be quite ironic...

So everything's flyin' by, easy as cake. Then I come to the CV joint bolts. I pull out my handy triple square tool and pull 6 of 8 bolts with no drama. Then the last two happen. I can't get the triple square to seat in either, they have not been replaced by hex bolts, either. I sprayed them out with WD40 and tried again, no luck. Since I don't want to ruin my tool, should I just go to the vice grip to get the last two bolts started, or should I go the route mentioned in an earlier post and leave the CV joints alone and slide the tranny back while still attached?

As always, your advice is much appreciated. Thanks,

We run into this problem daily! Most of the other shops tighten the cv joint bolts with a zip gun or impact wrench, most times rounding off the inhex allenhead or star socket. Get yourself a big sharp chisel and hammer and chisel off the bolt. I don't mean chisel off the bolt head, I mean chisel concentric to the bolt head and the direction to take it off(counter clockwise). You should put some of the bolts that you have already taken off back on as not to have the stuck bolts to bind at an angle not friendly. Then you can use the vicegrips, or the proper tool to get the bolts out, once you have chiseled the bolts loose. I have these in stock and so does PP. OTTO
