Pressure Plate
I have read that a performance upgrade for 914-4 clutches is to use an early 65-69 911 E or T pressure plate. Has anyone tried this? Is there a significant difference in gripping force or clutch pedal effort? I know I need a little clutch work, mine is slipping a bit, and before I commit to the parts I wonder if there are any cost effective upgrades available.
Thanks, Mike |

Hmm, the only thing I would upgrade to the stock clutch is the 6 sping clutch. The PP is fine, you can get a lightened one, but that won't make any gripping differance.

pressure plate
yes it makes a helluva difference!! Go to any GGR time trial any weekend & see the 914's with clutch problems..
if you are gonna cowboy thew car, get the 2.0/911 PP AND DO NOT USE any re-man disc; best is to get a carbon/kevlar reline if yo are gonna "race" |

Hmm, I can see where I made my mistake before. heh, I'll be. Sorry about the confusion. I was thinking flywheel, not PP, but I typed in PP. So my mistake, forgive me. I'll go on with what I ment before, correctly this time (or so I think)
The FLYWHEEL being lightened shouldn't make any gripping differance, but the PP being stronger will. A flywheel made with a better material (one that is "stickier") would help though. |

The pressure plate included in the Pelican clutch kit is from the 911, 911T, 911E (1965-69), 914-6 (1970-72). Mine is on it's way, I should be doing my clutch job this weekend. I'll let you know how it feels.

Guys, thanks for the comments.
Ray, please let us know how the clutch works out. I am curious if the pedal action is heavy and if the take-up is smooth or abrupt. Thanks, Mike |

Mike,
I should mention, my "before" clutch needs to be replaced, so this won't be a comparison of a fresh 914 plate with a fresh 911 plate. I'll post the results regardless.

Mike,
I finished my clutch job this weekend. The pedal action/feel is not heavier than the stock 914 clutch. The take up is very abrupt, though. It takes some getting used to, but it may just be the feel of a new disk versus the VERY worn old disk.

Ray,
Thanks for the update. I was driving this weekend and my clutch is still slipping in certain situations, so I'll have to make a move eventually. Mike |
