Randy,
I have never removed mine, but according to the factory manual sect. 7 page 1.3 it says to remove the cable lock for the control cable and then unscrew fastening screw for locking sector. Also says to remove drivers seat prior to removal of hand brake lever.
Good luck.

If you havent already take out the bolt, then wiggle the hand lever till it comes out, if not try using something to pry it with, then maybe some spray lube, I just took mine out yesterday..

I've been bangin' on mine for 2 weekends......... still stuck on the pivot post. I was able to remove the short cable to the equalizer though.

And all I wanted to do was re-paint it!

Thumbs up

I thought it might slide off but did not want to force it. It is soaking right now.

Getting that cable off is something I've been struggling with. I can't get it off for the life of me. Any suggestions?

When I did my carpet a while back, I tried to bang out the pivot - no luck. I finally gave up, and cut the carpet piece to go around the cable. Mine is in there for all time, hope the cable never goes....

FWIW, I removed the driver's seat first. Then, as you are doing, soaked the pivot, and was finally able to remove the handle using persuasion in the form of a Craftsman 15" long screwdriver. It still took a while to pry it off, tho, but it can be done.

The key is to soak it with penetrating oil. Then tap (BANG) while moving the handle thru it's entire range. Then move the handle with a pry tool between the handle and body. It is tedious but will come off.

I had to remove the e-brake cable at the rear caliper end to give me enough slack.

The pin holding the cable on mine was rusted to the cable end and had to be drilled out. The pin is not available any more but you can use the "Snap Retainer Clip / Pin For Clevis Fork (clutch cable to pedal shaft)" as a replacement.

I guess I am not as dumb as I thought.....You really do have to just knock the crap out of it, after spraying with PB blaster. I love these really old posts. Thanks for being there years ago and hanging on 'til I needed you.
