2.0L FI Dizzy Q?
 

Where and how do I lub the dizzy for my 2.0L FI engine?

I have the FI trigger points out to clean and am converting the dizzy to the Pertronix system. I noticed there was no felt in the dizzy. does it need it?

I plan on using some carb cleaner to clean the dizzy while everything is out, but the weights.

Thoughts?

Boy you have me confused... In your signature you list the car as a 1.8 yet you are asking about a 2.0l engine. So you have a 2.0l with Djet in the car? That FI has the trigger points and there isn't any real lubing to do. On all of the distributors a couple of drops onto the felt in the center shaft is all you need. Clean everything of dirt and rust. Check for sloppy/binding operation of the moving parts inside.
If it all questionable get a rebuild unit as they are fairly cheap ($65).
The Pertronix works pretty well too. After it's all installed, check the timimg with a light. If it's bouncing around a lot the distributor is worn.

with your pertronix, there is nothing to rub on the dist. lobe (used to be points lever) so there may be nothing to lube. i think the current wisdom is not to lube the trigger points as the lube may interfere with the FI points. (dirt and oil on the point contact surfaces). on the other hand, i seem to remember a place to put lube under the rotor but you need to verify that (monday morn, de-caf....)

Yes, the dizzy needs the felt for lubrication. You can make your own piece if it's missing. While you're looking at it, make sure the c-clip is properly attached to the shaft.

If you're doing the Pertronix conversion, take a few minutes before you do it and remove the points plate, clean it in solvent, and relubricate it. Grit between the plates will make the vacuum advance/retard jerky. Check the condition of the copper strap between the plates and make sure it isn't frayed or broken. If so, get a replacement plate from another dizzy. I'd also check the condition of the vacuum advance/retard cells. Make sure each holds vacuum properly and that they function as they are supposed to.

I use a small amount of Bosch distributor cam lube on the trigger points cam.
