914 Cable Shifter

Does anyone make a decent cable shifter for a 914 side shift transaxle? I have a lot invested in my 901 set-up ,Quaife, rebuild etc. and I am looking to use a cable shifter. I would appreciate any info that might be available. Thanks in advance.

What is the last name of the guy that has a wbsite about putting Subaru engines in the 914? His first name is Eric. He was making and selling cable shifters. Someone will read this and leave his name. Good ones? I don't Know. Good Luck, Pete

I believe that is for the tail shifter setup?

Are there any other options besides cableshift.com for purchasing a cable shifter?

The best setup I found when I was racing was the front and rear assemblies by Jim West and his Rennshift. In addition, replace the center joint with one of the sealed aircraft units and use new bushings every year. Most of the vintage racers with 914s used this setup and were very happy.

You mentioned a lot of $$$$ spent on the transmission so the next question is: do you have a lube pump and cooler system on it? If this is a high revving race car them that will extend transmission life tremendously.

You'd be amazed at the difference using a Rennshift or Wevo shifter along with the spherical coupler. IMO, it would be a much better feel then a cable shifter.

You want a tight fit. I ended up using epoxy on the contacting points on the shiftrod, then sanding them down to a very tight fit with the bushings. You also want to use graphite or some other dry lubricant and proper covers to keep the dirt out.

The Rennshifter is a huge help, mostly because no one bothers to change the bushings and springs in the common shifter. And I'm not talking about the lockout springs, but the springs and bushings behind the lockout plate.
