Question Popping?

It’s finally getting good and warm outside and as my car gets real warm it is popping back through the carbs occasionally. I have dual 40s with 50 idle jets. I thought this was a lean situation so I went to 55’s it got dramatically worse. I put the 50’s back in, checked all the manifold fasteners, and retarded the timing a little, still popping occasionally. Any other ideas?

Try cleaning the idle and main jets.... popping via the carb is a lean condition that can sometimes be adjusted out by making the mixture a little rich just back out the air mixture screw 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.

I could be play in the Dizzy, Are you using points? also check for Vacume leak by sraying a mist of water around the Carbs while the motor is running,Check the bolts and Stud nuts for loose ones.Steve

Cool

Thanks for the input, this weekend I double checked the jets, points and and fasteners no luck. I was a little frustrated and manualy without a light on the dizzy to advance the timing because I had retarded it before. Completly solved the problem. I am borrowing a digital light today I want to find out what exactly the timing is. Read the tech article 32-35 advance is supposed to be good for a 050 but does that cause any heat problems?
