The firing order is stamped on the engine tin just above the oil cooler, next to the distributor.

hmmmm.... in my haynes, the firing order was wrong!!!! check your copy, maybe mine is old and maybe they corrected the many errors i've found (like pictures upside down and diagrams not labeled right). like previous post said, it's on the engine tin 1-4-3-2. one thing that might help (BTDT) is that as you look at the rotor from the passengers side of the car, the rotor will rotate CW (tidbit to help but wires in correct place)

Hmm, my Haynes has it right...
I'm more of a visual person, so when remembering the plug wire connections, I remember that the left-side plug wires have to cross. The right-side ones do not. The left-front distributor cap terminal gets connected to the left-rear spark plug. The left-rear cap terminal goes to the left-front plug. On the right side, the front cap tower hooks up to the front plug, and the rear cap tower to the rear plug. --DD

Firing order Porsche 914 2.0
Question
So if I am looking at the rear of the car the wires on the drive side are crossed as the go to the rotor, and the wires on the passenger side just connect to the rotor? I have yet to start this car it was in box's, should I try to get it running with the point or just go strait to the Petronics system? Thank you Rudy |

The wires sound like they're right. The firing order is 1-4-3-2, the rotor goes clockwise. The wires on the driver's side have to cross somewhere, the ones on the passenger's side don't have to.
