2012 WCR Ramble in the Dunes

Copied from another thread-

Friday is the visit/tour of the Canepa facilities, leaving Marina at about 9:30 am and scheduled to get to Scotts Valley between 10:00 and 10:30 am. After lunch there will be a tour of the Bell Helmet factory or a twisty drive on the backroads back to Marina.

Saturday is the twisty drive down to Arroyo Seco campground. Cars will gather at the Marina Motel 6 (100 Reservation Road) at 9:14 am and leave at about 9:30 am. Optionally, there will be an autocross event. Registration for that event is a separate charge. At about 5:00 pm cars will gather at Laguna Seca for a photoshoot. In the evening there will be a bbq back at the Motel 6 lot.

17 cars showed up early today despite the rain. Expect many more this weekend.

Paul, see post #139 of the 914World is down thread. Basically,

"Those leaving Saturday morning from the bay area are still leaving from Los Gatos Town Plaza Park @ 7:45AM."

See you there!

More shots from Friday (4/27)

We got together, as usual, at 9:14 ...

Here is Elliot leading a group of cars on the twisty drive to Canepa ...

Here we are gathered outside the Canepa facilities in Scotts Valley ...

Inside, on the first floor, are some of the most incredible cars you'll ever see ... for sale!

On the 2nd floor is a small but very very cool museum ...

Moving along, we arrived at a balcony overlooking the amazing restoration/repair center ...

Back on the first floor, in the back, is another group of incredible cars, looking very much like matchbox toys ...

After lunch we toured the Bell helmet factory, also in Scotts Valley ...

Here is Jeff on Highway 1, on the way back to the hotel.

Back at the hotel after a full day of activities ...

Man I am really missing the action! Keep posting would ya! I'll have to take the Alien out for a drive up the scenic lake superior shore in support of the event. The radiator has a small pin hole that weeps when it sits but it's good for a local drive.

Good to finally meet some of you this morning. Great to see everyone's projects, and connect faces to names.
I went to the auto x for a few hours, but didn't think I could wait another 4 hours for Laguna Seca. Have a great rest of WCR.

Here are some of the cars that took part in this weekend's get together .....

The man himself, Jeff Bowlsby, in his immaculate Bumblebee...

Matt in his heavily modified 914, including a faux carbon fiber hood ...

Ken, our twisty tour guide for Saturday, in his perfect '70 914-6 ...

Check out the unusual interior/exterior color combination in this sweet 6 ...

Dean drove his Suby-powered beauty all the way from Idaho ...

Lennie's flawless paint job was done by himself in his garage ...

Good natured Paul awarded himself the "Roughest 914 at the WCR" trophy. Despite its looks, his car ran like a top ...

There were two Copper Metallic cars at this year's WCR. This one is owned by Nate, from Anacortes, Washington ...

Jim Hoyland drove his Copper Metallic 914 up from Southern California ...

Sandy's gorgeous 914-6 acted as the sweeper for our twisty tour ...

Outstanding weather and a great time. Nolan was excited to get to go on the track. I was excited to get this photo of him.

Here's a four minute video of a small section of the twisty tour. It's my first attempt with a GoPro camera and the sound is atrocious. I also need to find a different spot to mount the camera because the rear view mirror really gets in the way.

But hopefully the video gives a sense of the fun we were having. Ken in his black 914-6 is leading the pack, followed by Dennis (?) in his blue 6, Dean, who drops out early, in his green Suby conversion, Jeff in his yellow 6, and Rich Bontempi (of HPH fame) in his very hot 2-liter. I'm trying to hang on in my stock 2.0 but you'll see I have no chance when the guys gun it out of the corners.

We had "24" the official number was actually the number. We managed to get a 500hp 914 out of the paddock to join us after his race was complete.

Big thanks to Harlen for making this happen.
