Snail Shell Transmission?

Please pardon my ignorance, but what is a Snail Shell Transmission? And, why is it so desireable?

I might guess that he interpreted the SS (side shifter) abbreviation incorrectly.

Thanks

I think that guy's been out in the sun a little too long. Sounds like he's talking about a side shifter, the prices he quoted are in that ballpark. So why would I want to buy a tranny with the tail end missing??? Lots of sins could be hiding under that little twist.

OTOH, once you have it, you can see the wear directly......

I'm in the process of rebuilding a tranny. Finding the time to work on it is harder than the work.
