Tachometer inaccurate
Hello 914 people.
For some reason my 914 tachometer appears to be off. Had been working correct for many years, but now seams to be reading low. Maybe 1/2 or 3/4 of correct RPM's. Anyone have a similar experience? |

Could you have a 911 tach instead of a 914 one? I had my tach repaired (actually the whole guts replaced with more modern ones!) a few years back. The shop accidentally set up the new parts for a 911, so the reading was 2/3 of what it should have been. I think a 911 tach would show you the same.

Hello Dave,
No, I have not had the tachometer repaired. Just seems to be reading low. Idle speed is lower and can't get RPM's up to redline. Runs fine otherwise. Not missing or reduced power. |

the tach picks up its signal from the spark coil, so check thoose wires, do not swap them around, else you can fry the tach. make sure they are in good condition and tight. if your points, coil or other parts in your ignition system are starting to fail, the tach may get strange.
