camping in the 914

well it was a good weekend

took the 914 camping in the mountains, it ran great could go up most hills at 80 ( read as mountain ) in 5th but on a few had to down shift to 4th , most of the hills were 3 miles long but rose 1000 ft

then came then fun part was in the state forest, dirt roads, ruts six inches deep, rain and mud

now in the car was a tent, 2 sleeping bags, a cooler, food, cooking supplies, a tool box, 2 blankets, and 2 rifles
dont forget the girlfriend and black lab dog

no problems out of it except the ground was a little to rough for the 27 year old shocks

now the fun part to prove the kind of weekend i had and how well the 914 holds on dirt roads here is a good pic

Sounds like fun...
Since you were going off road, be sure to loosen the bottom screws of rocker pannels to remove the dirt; other wise, a great rust generator.

In the old days I used the 914 as my daily driver and camped regularly, both at races and weekend trips. Camping and travel gear was always carefully planned so it would fit in the trunks. I had a regular packing routine and pretty well knew where everything would fit. Sort of minimalist. That was a long time ago. I still camp a few times a year, but now I throw everything in the back of my Nissan pickup. Big tent, big awning with poles, big coolers, chairs, table, etc. It would be tough going back to the 914! But maybe I should give it a try.

Scott, send skeit80 a private message. He had some FG rockers and is on your end of the continent.
