Inherited 914

Hello Everyone.. I'm new to the forum so I thought I'd introduce myself. I just recently inherited my father's 1971 914 that he drove off the lot when he purchased it after returning from Vietnam. It's been garaged kept and hasn't been driven in at least 10 years. The car has just over 100k original miles with very little rust and is still sporting the original paint job. My question is, where should I start with restoration? What should I be looking for? As far as I know I don't think it's currently running, but my father hasn't been all that motivated with working on it. The last time I saw it about two years ago he said he was having problems with the brake calipers, but he did mention that the engine was turning over.

Thanks for your input!

Steve

Look real good for rust under the battery tray. It can get very bad and kill 914's! Change ALL hoses and belts. Change all fluids. Have the brakes checked. Then drive the pants off it.

I'd say start with a nice relaxing cleaning to get to know it...

Then check out here and the other 914 forums...

At the least, it sounds like I'd worry about
1) brake system - lines, fluid, pads, calipers etc
2) fuel/engine - lines, injectors (or carbs), oil
3) electrical - battery, relays etc.
