Oil Temperatures

I've posted this question on the Parts For Sale forum along with a WTB ad for a new oil temperature sender.

Can anyone tell me why the supposedly new sender I have registers fine on my numbered gauge for about 15 minutes and then pegs at 300 degrees - while my dip stick "thermometer" shows normal temps that never exceed 200 degrees.

Newer sender has different resistance than what the gauge is expecting.
