Battery Tray and support location
I'm in the process of welding in a new battery support and tray. The old one was already removed when I got the car, can someone give me some general measurement on the location of the support and tray. On another note I bought all of the paint supplies last night, I decided on 2000 Porsche Polar Silver Metallic. I'm using Dupont Chromabase and Dupont Nasen CLear. It should look great.

Though it is more work, consider bolting in the tray and tray support.
To accomplish this, remove the old tray and support. Then weld three 8mm nuts to three 1.5" x 1.5" pieces of thick sheet metal. With a hole in the center of the pieces these are the plates. Weld the plates to the car at 3 places to secure the support to the car (drill holes in the car first). Bolt the support to the car. Bolt the tray to the support. Drill three 7mm holes in the tray and the vertical section of the engine compartment. Bolt the tray in with three 6mm Allen head screws. The advantages to this system is that it makes cleaning the engine compartment much easier when the tray is removed.

Does anyone every drill holes in the top of the battery tray for drainage? I've noticed that after I wash the car, water just collects in the tray around the battery and doesn't drain. The battery seems to prevent the water from getting to the hole in the center of the tray. (I've installed an Optima so I won't have battery acid draining below.) I was thinking that a few well placed holes would allow it to drain adequately.
