Rear springs wquestion
My question is, how long are the springs supposed to be. I ask because when I jack up my '74, the springs fall out of the "seats". I don't remember that on my previous 914s but it has been a few years since I got rid of my last one. I remember having to compress them to change them out but I could be wrong. A sanity check, please.

Stock springs are tall enough that when the suspension is at full droop they stay seated in the top and bottom perches. Most of the aftermarket springs are shorter, and will come out of the perch when the suspension is at full droop.
I use a couple of tie-wraps to tie the spring to the upper perch so that it stays in place there. It will tend to fall right into the correct place on the perch that way, and even when it does not it is a lot easier to check the lower perch than the upper one. --DD

Thanks! I didn't think they were stock. Great idea about the ties, going to give it a try.
