nice jugs

now that i got your attention;

i dropped the engine on my 914 2.0 f.i. and i want to do the valves and rings.
i'm having a problem pulling the alum. heads away from the iron jugs, they seem to be fused together. one jug is free the other three are not.
any input.
Thank you..........

I recently pulled mine apart for a complete rebuild and only had 1 stuck. I rapped it a few times on the cylinder skirt and got it out of the head. But,,,, I also cracked the bottom of the cylinder. Leon

Just pull the whole darn thing off and separate them on the work bench. Maybe soak in PB blaster.

Hitting with a rubber mallet, a soft-faced mallet, or a dead-blow mallet can help separate them. Just make sure to strike completely parallel to the fins, or you risk damaging them. You're not trying to use the mallet to push the two apart, just to put enough shock into them to break the bond that has formed.

A good penetrating oil can help, too.

i removed all the nuts,( eight ) sprayed the scrap out of it several times for days.
i left the exhaust bolted to the heads so not to break any bolts and i tried to wiggle it out w/help while hitting it with a rubber mallet and still nada.
Can heat be applied to the iron fins? I'm not sure what else to do and already cracked a fin on one jug while i tried to pry it free.

Having a great time.....

Bottom tin is still on. I didn't think it would be in the way.
I'll try that next.
Thank you.....

Oh, yes--it's a problem! There are screws into both the case and the head. Definitely take it off before trying to remove the heads again.

Sorry I didn't think of it; I ran into that problem myself one of the last times I tore the heads off my motor.
