924 hubcap on 2-litre Fuchs

Has anybody seen or heard of this trick of using a 924 center/hub cap on the 2-litre Fuchs?

I think the 924 cap would come from a Phone Dial and may require slight modification.

If you know, please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Yep, it's been done a couple times...

This is how I did it once:

A few others have had different ideas and have improved upon my first attempt.

Thanks Mike-

Recently I saw a photo where they had used the flatter style 924 center with the Porsche crest ingraved. .....anybody know about this?

RustyWa 08-02-2002 02:10 PM

Anyone have some photographs of what this looks like?

Jubal DeLong 08-02-2002 02:47 PM

The solution I'm looking for might be a 944 center on 4-lug Fuchs...?

It's flat w/ engraved crest.

I too would really like to see pix as I cannot find the ones I mentioned above from some Ebay item.

YES ^^^ that's it! Do you know what center was used?

JWest 08-06-2002 11:40 AM

It does not look like that cap would clear the front grease cap. I could be wrong as I have not had a set of fuchs for a long time, but I know the grease cap sticks out on Mahle and Pedrini wheels.

I think that cap is the "flat" wheel cap like design 90s and later wheels.

Incredible wheels, Rusty! Were they done by Wheel Enhancement? They resemble the anodized finish that I've noted in some of their ads. Got a pic of them on your car? Bob

Oh those aren't my wheels. They are the ones Jubal was talking about seeing for sale on eBay. They sold for a wee bit over $600.

They do look nice, but I wondered about the grease cap also....

These may be American Eagle's knockoffs with the black painted
Wurth silver ( I was thinking about doing that). That would give you other options as the hole is different diameter and offset.

Here is the original auction...

I guess someone could ask the seller...

914/924 Center Caps

Mike had the original idea... and I kind of adapted it for my 74 Limited Edition car.

I thought I had posted a tech article on how to do it. Maybe it's still on my system and not uploaded. I'll check when I get home.

Hey, Rust-boy! Time to update your profile.

"Toto, I don't think we're in Egypt any more!" ;)

The pix Rusty posted is what I'm looking for. I don't think they're knock-offs.

I got my hands on a center like that shown (from Phone-Dial). Held it up to the Fuchs on my car and looks like the grease-cap will be a clearance promlem but the diameter may just work.

?? The rear should be no-prob -But how bad of an idea would it be to run with the grease-cap removed in the front ?? With diligent checking and greasing ??

Dave at Pelican Parts 08-07-2002 01:53 PM

Bad.

The wheel bearing is right there behind the cap. The cap is there in small part to keep the grease in, and in large part to keep dirt out. I would not run with the cap off unless there was some pressing reason.

OK.

So I wonder if the ebay wheels from above were to be mounted on a VW or something w/out the grease-cap problem.

Too bad, I really like the way it looks and those centers cost less than the flimsy 2L Fuchs'.
