I'm going to paint my car don't really care if it is factory color or not. It's hard to decide without seeing one already painted. Let's see some pics!!!!

There is a website that has pictures of 914's in the factory colors, maybe 50% of the colors are pictured. I don't have access to this site address at the moment but someone will post it I hope for you.

Go here:
http://members.rennlist.com/chuxter/914Colors.htm If the color name is a link, click on it and you'll see a picture of a car in that color. |

check the color code on the small metal id plate on the front drivers side door jam, i think a 914 painted the correct color (if you like it) would add to the value of the car. plus if the trunks are the orig. color and in good shape you would'nt have to paint them. geoff are you working or on a break? look for some vw pumas when your in s.a. ship one home and slip a t-4 in it. how's that equatorial sun?

I've got two picture collections you can look at.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jca_914_1/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jca_914_2/ I think I would have to grant permission so you can see them, but I have about 600 914 pics I have stolen, robbed, and thieved from the internet. Just don't tell anyone .

I have a colors site as well. Of course I like mine better because it has higher quality pictures and big versions.

I'm kind of partial to Arena Red Metalic. It's not a "914" color, but it is a Porsche color. (Not my car either, too bad

here's mine the day(night) I bought it... still haven't painted it though.. I wanted to change it to 911 polar (or is it artic?) silver... but blew the engine and decided it would be too expensive to change the color..

Special K: This is the repaint color on my now defunct 1971. It is a sweet color. And I love the subtle subtle flares on the rear.

Red-beard,
Yeah, and it looks real good in the sun too. The car in the hyperlink is a V-8 conversion. They show how they went about flaring the fenders while keeping the original wheel opening shape, you'd better be a proficient welder to take on this method. Mine has SC flares on the back w/225x15 Yoko's and 205's on the front. I'm tempted to do the "BFH and dolly" method shown on the "one hour....one inch" posting (or something like that) on my front fenders. I've got the BFH and the dollies, I'm just lacking the nerve to do that first "WHACK"! Maybe I'd better practice a bit on my '75 parts car first.

Whoa! What a great idea! I have the carcass of my 1971 914 sitting, waiting to be dragged off and crushed. I could play there first!

Excellent posts everyone. That site with the factory colors is cool, never new it existed. I really like that Arena Red Metalic. The car look very sinister in that pic.
I'l check the plat on my car to see what color it was but it really doesn't matter. If I can't enjoy the color of it what's the sense of having it whether it is factory color or not. Value of a car is useless if you don't like the way it looks.

Here is my 914 at a NASA event at the Nashville Superspeedway last summer. The color is Guards Red, a popular Porsche factory color for many years, but not used on at all on the new water cooled cars.

Hey, Don. Could be my monitor, but that doesn't look like Guards Red to me! Looks a lot more "cool", with more blue in it. GR, to me, has a lot of orange in it and is a "warmer" color.
I prefer the cooler reds myself. I really like the way your car looks on my screen... But then, that points out one of the real difficulties in trying to judge colors over the Net. Monitors are different, color tables in the browsers are different, some browsers approximate colors, JPEGs tend to dither a fair amount anyway, and so on. Tough to be sure what someone else is seeing looks like what you're seeing... --DD
