Carbs on a six...

... 'cause I like the sound!

BUT... on the stock four, L-Jet (AFC) rules. I never had any problems with my 1.8

I'm on the fuel injection side as well since it has better drivability and when proberly ajusted you get just as much (if not more) power than carbs. The downside to fuel injection is that it is a bit more complicated than carbs and I agree that carbs look and sound great. However the fuel injection on these cars is really easy to learn and troubleshoot. My $.02

Mine came with the stock FI and I will try to keep it that way; easier to drive and making less polution, well I hope...

I'm an old VW guy that feels really comfortable with my ability to tune a set of dual webers. It's a zen thing, I do the majority of it by ear. Fuel injection is great if you have the time and money to trouble shoot it. Give me a set of 48 IDA's and a fat cam any day!! Just my 2 cents. The beauty of it is, it's your car do whatever makes you feel good and tell the rest of the world to take a hike!!!

Funny that you should say that, I'm building one like that right now....But forget TI valves, they are zapped in 1K miles on the street!

I ripped the stock FI off my 914, the system was okay 10 years ago, now things are just too old and parts are expensive...

as for aftermarket EFI, it is a lot of work and expense, but is really sweet when dialed in, plan on 3K for a descent system!

I like the look, sound and feel of carbs...but my EFI remains consistent with little or no TLC required. Still, A nice set of 44's under the Christmas tree would make the year complete...

Hope the girlfriend reads this...

I prefer FI, but you all knew that, anyway!

My biggest issue with using carbs on 914 street cars is pollution. Dual 40IDF's on a stock motor (stock cam, stock heads and displacement) do not offer a significant performance advantage (or perhaps a decrease) and pollute more during warmup, at idle, part load, full load, and during overrun. For cars with high lift and duration aftermarket cam, pollution levels (especially HC's) are very high, regardless of the fuel system used.

See my web page for a comparison of carbs vs. FI

The cars came with FI for a reason, it runs better and has more power!
Geez Jake! only $3000 for a good system! I think I'll stay with the Djet for now, although the Wolf system looks pretty good to me.

Megasquirt.

A very serious DIY setup. You have to provide manifolding, throttle body, injectors, yadda yadda yadda. MS is an ECU board that you put together yourself. Source code for the program running on the board is downloadable and modifiable.

Mueller has one on his 914. Using mostly 2.0 FI hardware, as I recall. Still needs tuning...
