Low Fuel Light

Is there a way to "fool" the low fuel level indicator light into coming on (i'm at 3/4 full)? I'm trying to replace the light with an LED and I need to get the polarity right.

Unplug the connector on top of the gas tank. Short the two contacts for the low fuel light sender to each other. Should be a black wire and a brown wire, or you can just short the black wire to any ground. Turn the key on, and the light should be on. Verify with the stock one before changing anything.

Or you can remove the sender from the fuel tank. The float should sink to the bottom, turning on the light when the key is on.

When you look behind the fuel gauge,, you will see a bayonet light holder that illuminates the low fuel indicator, the spade connector with multiple wires is the + wire. The other wire goes to the sender and completes the circuit by grounding that wire when the fuel is low. So,, if you plan to install an LED,, multi wire spade is + and single wire spade is -
Hope this answers your polarity problem.
