History of 914 aftermarket engine parts trivia question:
OK, I just got back from my mechanic's shop and he says that I have SOLID lifters after all. But they LOOK like hydro bus lifters ( they have that black band around them) but they're solid. A PO switched this 73 2.0 to carbs in the late 70's , did SS heat exchangers and a Monza-type exhaust, 14" ATS wheels and may have done a cam at that time as well. ( I've never spilt the case, just dealing with a dropped valve seat). Ever seen lifters that look like that? (Webcam?)

Yes, the band around the outside is on the solid lifters also. This is an incorrect identifier for hydro lifters.

Can anyone post a picture differentiating a solid lifter from a hydraulic one?
