914-6 offset / early 911 offset

hi all,

I m in search of a set of 914-6 original Fuchs rims.
while it is relatively easier to find a set of early 911 rims; its not as easy to find the 914-6 rims. So I wonder if they are in fact the same thing?

Thanks for any help.
Cheers
Carson

I'd say yes, they are the same.

My six came with steel wheels. Most did. I have early 911 narrow Fuchs"s and I took the wider wheels off of my 1969 911E and put them on the six and they fit it perfectly. I think they are 6". I don't have flares. Also the GT'S came with Fuchs"s ,maybe those are different.

The original 914-6 Fuchs wheels are the 14" diameter ones. Same part number as the ones used with the "comfort" option on early 911s. The 15s may not have been fitted by the factory, though they were a very popular dealer "upgrade" from what I understand.

The part numbers for all of the 914-6 wheels are the same as the ones for early 911s. The Fuchs wheels, the Mahle "gasburner" wheels, and even the steelies.

When 914/6s were in production and fairly common, all the weekend racers (autocrossers and timetrialers) decided 14s were the go-to wheels because there was wide availability of 14" race tires. )NASCAR used 14s.) As 15" race tires became readily available (as well as HP street tires), the 14" Fuchs (and all the other 14s on which competitors ran) became throw-aways. A decade or so later, 16" race tires became the norm, and you can see where this is going.

FYI, early 7s or 911R wheels fit 914/6s nicely, with only a slight fender roll to flatten the bead. Good luck with finding those. Last set of early 7s I saw for sale (in 2002 or 2003) were aggressively bid UP from the starting point of $1500 ............. EACH!
